Task 3 - Second use for show box

These are my designs for my shoe box to a spice rack.
A possible name branding could be Spicy Shoes just to incorporate the idea of its second use.
My design works on using folds and tabs to tuck in and be held by other folds.
The material I have chosen is corrugated board and I do not know the measurements of this material to be precise on my designs so my designs show an example cut out to give the idea.

I found a page about the possible material that I would use in this design but the information was a bit to much to take in a compress onto my designs so in including the link in this post:

Some additional info for this design to try and answer some questions:

The hight of this box enables it to be put into a cupboard above the counter so moisture shouldn't get to the cardboard.
It also service in this instance as an added shelf in the cupboard which means you can make use of the usual empty space above.
This design doesn't have to be used as just a spice rack, this is just one instance. It can be used for small glasses cups.

  1. Good basic ideas Rebecca.. Folds and tucks etc come in all shapes and sizes and the guys last year found a few that were really reliable and that didn't slip out in use etc..

  2. This is a brilliant idea :) I wouldn't have thought that you could associate a shoe box to something of use in the kitchen.
I only have one query that if it was to be put on a kitchen side there would be possibility of the cardboard becoming damp and eventually falling apart? (talking in terms of durability in the kitchen environment) I wouldn't know what to suggest as a more durable material though..would need to look into it.

  3. Hi! I like the idea albeit a bit random to turn a shoe box into a spice rack! But it is a second use! My main concern was the use of material in terms of what environment this rack would be in and whether it would be sturdy enough to hold up several spice jars. Also, as a shoe lover, I was wondering how many spice racks I would need in my kitchen. Other than that I think the idea is really interesting and I like how you have clearly drawn and carefully considered the box's net for the folds to avoid using glue!
